Using Behavioral Economics and Human-Centered Design to Improve Engagement in the Child Support Program: Hands-On Workshop for Sacramento County Staff

Building on their successful implementation of the Behavioral Interventions for Child Support Services grant, for which MEF staff provided technical assistance and evaluation services in California, the Sacramento County Department of Child Support Services contracted MEF Associates to conduct a three-day training to introduce all (300+) staff to the principles and applications of behavioral science. MEF staff collaborated with local program staff to develop and deliver a tailored curriculum focused on using insights from behavioral economics and human-centered design to increase participant engagement in Sacramento’s child support services. Attendees worked together in small groups to practice the behavioral diagnosis and design process from start to finish to develop their own “behaviorally designed” prototypes.
