Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe, Comprehensive Community-based Re-Entry Program

The Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe received grant funding from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance as part of its Second Chance Act Comprehensive Community-based Adult Reentry Program. This program provides re-entry services to tribal and non-tribal individuals in Kitsap County, Washington who are transitioning out of Kitsap County Jail. The grant funding allows the tribe to build on its existing re-entry program serving tribal members. The program, which the tribe characterizes as a human dignity model for re-entry, focuses on reducing recidivism through employment, education, cultural connections, and counseling services. MEF serves as the external evaluator for the grant. This includes assistance in the planning and implementation process and conducting an evaluation based on a combination of analysis of program data and qualitative fieldwork.
