Stephen Nuñez is a Senior Research Associate in MEF’s Income Support and Economic Mobility domain. He has over a decade of experience in research and program evaluation, with special expertise in housing, workforce, and income support policy. His work has involved designing and implementing experimental and quasi-experimental impact evaluations. He has special interests in the design and distributional impacts of cash assistance policies, and in diminishing the administrative burden on recipients of safety net benefits more broadly. Steve is currently working on the MTW-X Asset Building Cohort and the Tennessee Opportunity Act projects among others.

Prior to coming to MEF Associates, he was the Lead Researcher on Guaranteed Income policy at the Jain Family Institute and a Research Associate at MDRC. Steve holds a PhD in Sociology and an MA in Economics from Stanford University and an AB in Politics from Princeton University.

Outside of work, Steve enjoys debating policy on social media, video games, and spending time with his wife and two young daughters.
