Race Equity for Fatherhood, Relationship, and Marriage Programs to Empower Black Families (REFRAME) (2021-2025)

The REFRAME project aimed to deepen understanding of the needs and experiences of Black fathers, families, couples, and youth served by Healthy Marriage and Responsible Fatherhood (HMRF) programs and identify research priorities and program strategies to ensure program services can effectively support their needs.

The REFRAME project contributed to practice through enhancing understanding of the needs, assets, and experiences of Black fathers, families, couples, and youth whom HMRF programs serve to make HMRF programs more equitable and culturally responsive. The team engaged with stakeholders, experts, and communities; synthesized evidence on pertinent topics on sources of strengths and systemic barriers impacting Black fathers, families, couples, and youth in HMRF programs; and identified future research priorities to support ongoing work in this area. It also identified a set of resources that could be developed to help HMRF programs ensure their services are equitable and reflective of the needs of Black families. Insight Policy Research/Westat was a subcontractor to MEF on this project.
