The Opportunity
We are looking for a talented Staff Accountant in our Alexandria, Virginia office. We are also potentially open to remote hire.
In this position, you will maintain accounts payable procedures and assist with financial recordkeeping. We are in search of a driven finance professional who is enthusiastic about embracing a wide range of duties and growing with the firm. This role signifies a chance to become part of an expanding institution and progressively assume greater duties. Candidates should possess prior experience in bookkeeping or accounting functions.
Essential Role and Responsibilities
- Processing accounts payable transactions
- Establishing and maintaining relationships with new and existing vendors
- Reviewing expense reports and expense reimbursement for accuracy
- Reconciling monthly credit card statements
- Assisting with accounts receivable transactions and reconciliation
- Support staff for process adherence and accurate reporting
- Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Proficient in cost accounting with deep knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Competent in accounts payable/receivable management
- Strong time management and organizational abilities for multitasking
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Excel and other Microsoft applications
- Experience with federal contractor accounting systems like PROCAS a plus
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or related discipline
- One to five years of accounting experience, with a strong preference for work in government contracting

Compensation and benefits: The salary range for this position is $55k to $75k depending on experience. MEF offers comprehensive benefits.
